The Outdoor Activity Center (OAC) is a 26-acre urban nature preserve located 5 miles from downtown Atlanta, established in 1975 with the goal of educating children and adults about conservation, ecology and the environment. It features 2 miles of trails, a ropes course, a nature-themed playground, treehouse classroom, aquarium and a multi-purpose building. It offers environmental education programs for local youth ranging from elementary to college, with interactive, interdisciplinary activities and field trips aimed at impacting attitudes and behaviors towards nature. The programs complement classroom learning in subjects such as math, science, social studies, history and language arts and are aligned with Georgia Performance Standards. The site has been integral to the Fulton County and Atlanta Public Schools Systems and seeks to encourage visitors to act as stewards of a healthy and sustainable environment.
